Two books designed and produced by Face Publications have won four major national Gourmand awards and will now represent the UK in the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Awards later this year.

Galton Blackiston’s Hook Link Sinker and Hayden Groves’ Back in the Saddle are competing in four categories at the international awards in Yantai, China, after being crowned Best in the UK in each of their categories.

It’s always a thrill and an honour to receive a Gourmand Award – to get four national awards and four Best in the World nominations this year is an amazing start to 2018!
— Anthony Hodgson, Face Publications

Hook Line Sinker, a seafood cookbook, will compete against books from around the globe for the title of Best in the World in the Fish and Seafood category.

Written by Galton Blackiston, chef-owner of the Michelin-starred Morston Hall in Norfolk, with photography by John Scott Blackwell and a foreword by Michel Roux OBE. The book features over 90 original recipes created throughout Galton's lifelong love affair with fish and shellfish.

Galton’s seafood dishes have always turned heads. He has a knack of taking simple ingredients and pairing them with techniques and flavours that allow the flavours to remain pure whilst bringing a sense of fun to the occasion. Cooking seafood is an art and in this book, Galton shows you how to master it.

'Back in the Saddle' will represent the UK in no less than three categories for the title of Best in the World, a record number for any UK cookbook this year: Culinary Travel, Food and Sport, and Charity Cookbook.

Chef and author Hayden Groves was part of an amateur cycling team which last year tackled the three Grand Tours for charity – the Giro D’Italia, Tour de France and Spain’s La Vuelta – cycling 10,760km through seven countries in 63 days, becoming the first amateur team to complete the challenge one day ahead of the professionals, and raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for Cure Leukaemia.

The book features contributions from Professor Charles Craddock CBE, Alastair Storey OBE, Phil Liggett MBE, Laura Kenny CBE and Michel Roux Jr, cycling photography by Dave Hayward and food photography by Adrian Franklin. It follows the team’s journey, punctuated by recipes from each stage. The book was published courtesy of BaxterStorey and all proceeds from its sale will go to Cure Leukaemia.

Face Publications has previously won several Gourmand Awards including, in 2015, the title of ‘Best of the Best – the best-designed cookbook in the world over the last 20 years’ for Too Many Chiefs Only One Indian by two-Michelin-starred Sat Bains.

The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards were founded in 1995 by Edouard Cointreau. Every year, they honour the best food and wine books, printed or digital, as well as food television. Books from 205 countries participate in these prestigious awards, the largest international cookbook competition.

This year’s awards will be held in Yantai, one of China’s main wine-producing cities, on 26 and 27 May.
